A story engraved in the red earth, in the white lime and in the rough stone of a territory that was unexplored and that has now become the place to be for everyone that is looking for summer’s high musical quality: Puglia. A story to honor with a new, unforgettable line-up.
The twentieth edition of the Locus Festival, a bastion of the Italian musical summer and a forerunner of the Apulian Renaissance, is taking place from June 28th to August 14th

To celebrate this incredible milestone, the festival born in Locorotondo (BA) that has been putting Valle d’Itria on the maps of all musical lovers, chooses “It Was Written” as inspiring claim, referring to the seminal second album of Nas, one of the headliners of this 2024 edition.

The secret of Locus longevity is the perfect fusion between worldwide high profile artists and the best italian acts, in an explosive and original mix between past, present and future.
This is why for the twentieth year Locus Festival offers its audience an exceptional program for an unforgettable and more-than-ever high artistic relevant happening.
As always, the line-up boasts brilliant stars of world music such as Nas (exclusive Italian summer show), Toto, Marcus Miller, Robert Plant, Simple Minds, Glen Hansard, (the return of) Fat Freddy’s Drop, Yussef Dayes, Meute, Channel One and selected and inspired choices among the most innovative in the international panorama such as Deena Abdelwahed, Sama’ Abdulhadi, Coco Maria.
Added to these international names is the quality of Italian acts such as Subsonica, Calcutta, Vinicio Capossela, Salmo & Noyz Narcos, Colapesce Dimartino, Fulminacci, Cosmo and some of the freshest innovations from Bel Paese such as Daniela Pes, Hate My Village, Bassolino, Serena Brancale, Matteo Mancuso, okgiorgio, TY1 and the local legends DJ Tuppi & Moddi MC. Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with the longstanding Radio 2 show Musical Box, hosted by Raffaele Costantino, Locus will welcome two amazing international gems such as Galliano and Kassa Overall and two emerging Italian realities such as Coca Puma and Massimo Silverio. A program of four concerts which will be covered by the national radio RAI Radio2.

On this XX edition Locus will guide the audience on a must-see musical journey through some of the most beautiful locations in Puglia.

As usual, the city squares and masserie of Locorotondo – the historic home and driving force of Locus – will be the place to be for the August climax, but in the previous weeks the festival will explore some of the most recognizable and identifying glimpses of the region.

It all starts at the end of June with some of the most recognizable places of Bari, from the wonderful Petruzzelli Theater which has flourished again in all its beauty, to the historic Fiera del Levante, which has always been the cultural and commercial bridge connecting the city to the world. In July we continue the journey between the hinterland and the sea: Largo Martellotta and the wonderful Trullo Sovrano, in the heart of the historic Trulli Center of Alberobello (UNESCO heritage site since 1996), will host an extraordinary first time of Locus festival in the “Capitale dei Trulli”; the historic Tenuta Bocca di Lupo in Minervino Murge (BT), nestled in the vineyards of the deepest and most ancestral Murgia; Foro Boario in Ostuni (BR), with a unique view of the “White City”; the central square of the historic center of Fasano (BR), the “living room” along the trulli coast.

Locus Festival will also live through two exhibitions.
“Andy Warhol. Life, Pop & Rock” In Alberobello, celebrating the marriage between the festival and the city of Trulli, for an exhibition produced by Bass Culture srl and Rjma Progetti culturali, with the support of the Municipality of Alberobello and in collaboration with Locus Festival Association.
It will be open to the public from May 18th to October 20th 2024. Through a large selection of 150 works from private collections, the exhibition trackes the entire artistic and human evolution of one of the greatest, multifaceted, loved, discussed and influential art figures of our time.

To further seal this twentieth edition, Locus will celebrate also with a photographic exhibition called “LOCUS ROTONDUS 2005-2023”: a traveling journey through various places in Locorotondo (Piazza Aldo Moro, Largo Mitrano, Largo Mazzini , FSE Station, Laboratorio Urbano G-Lan and Masseria Ferragnano), the same places that has hosted and that has changed with the festival throughout the years.

The end will be sealed with one last great show on October 8th at the historic Petruzzelli Theatre: after the love the city of Bari has shown last summer during a memorable performance, Locus Festival will host the first show of the new tour Italian of Robert Plant with the Saving Grace project, together with Suzi Dian (vocals), Oli Jefferson (percussion), Tony Kelsey (mandolin, baritone and acoustic guitars), and Matt Worley (banjo, acoustic guitars and baritone, cuatro).
A musical journey between folk, spiritual and blues music, inspired by the dreamscape of Welsh marches, discovering the musical influences of one of the most iconic frontmen in the history of music.

Once again but more than other times, Locus Festival celebrates its first twenty years and projects itself into the future from 2024 and beyond, with a very high profile line-up.
A story that was born from a dream twenty years ago that today represents the pride of a territory and the visiting card of the Italian musical summer.

Locus Festival turns 20, and celebrates this 2024 edition, promising to be even more surprising than the previous.

The secret recipe for Locus’ longevity is the perfect fusion between the magnificent territory it lives in and a very high quality line-up, capable of including international high-profile artists along with the best names in the Italian scene into an explosive and original blend between past, present and future.

The path of the twentieth edition begins to take shape with the first announced acts:
this years edition starts from Bari with the big comeback of Calcutta on June 28th with the highly anticipated new album “Relax” and hosting for the first time two italian rap heavyweights, Salmo & Noyz Narcos, on June 29th, touring with their powerful joint album “CVLT”.
In the same night (June 29th) and in the same city (Bari), the magnetic Irish singer-songwriter, guitarist and actor Glen Hansard will present his new album “All That Was East Is West Of Me Now”.
On June 30th legendary Simple Minds and their Global Tour will close Bari’s leg of Locus Festival, playing their unforgettable classics all the way to the new album.

Fasano will then host on July 27th a true black music legend, one of the most influential and iconic jazz/funk bassists in the world: Marcus Miller.

The first guests announced for Locorotondo‘s leg are equally exciting: the traditional week of consecutive events in Masseria begins on August 7th with the return of the Locus-favourites New Zealanders Fat Freddy’s Drop and ends on August 14th for an exceptional pre-August holiday party with the incredible “techno marching band ” Meute, all the way from Hamburg.  NY Legend, King of Rap – NAS will join Locorotondo’s lineup on his only Italian date on August 12th.

GLEN HANSARD on June 29th in the Petruzzelli Theater, Bari, for Locus festival 2024

By Locus 2024 eng

TICKETS ON SALE from 11am on Wednesday 13 December 2023 on ticketone.it

Singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, voice and guitar of The Frames, founder together with Marketa Irglova, of THE SWELL SEASON, winner of the Oscar in 2008 with ‘Falling Slowly’, best original song from the film ‘Once’, Glen Hansard returns to Italy to present All That Was East Is West Of Me Now, the new album released on October 20, together with the most famous songs from his repertoire.

The singer-songwriter’s first album in over four years, it follows a period in which Hansard moved between collaborations with Eddie Vedder and Cat Power and live performances with The Frames and Markéta Irglová/The Swell Season.

All these experiences helped give direction to All That Was East Is West Of Me Now, an album that is at times noisy and meditative, sprawling and hypnotic, definitely Hansard’s rockiest album since The Frames’ Burn the Maps.

All That Was East Is West Of Me Now was born from a series of five concerts organized by Hansard by word of mouth in his small local pub during November 2022. “A song becomes what it is only through testimony” – he said – and in the presence of an audience “the song finds a different path”. At the end of the residency, the album took shape and recording began with long-time collaborator David Odlum in his studio on the outskirts of Dublin.

The title derives from the “sudden awareness that there is more behind than ahead” and suggests an investigation from a great height, taking into consideration the terrain covered and yet also what is yet to be discovered. While the passage of time may be a central theme, these eight tracks focus more on the promise of the future than thoughts of regret or nostalgia.
